![]() Many people do not realize the dangers of leaked personal information online. If you do not take the few extra moments to verify the site you are visiting is legitimate you could end up on the victim side of a credit card or log in theft! https://specialtyinsurance.typepad.com/specialty_insurance_blog/2018/01/what-is-phishing-and-why-do-you-need-to-know.html Consider this: An email comes in from your bank, and you read the body of the email where they ask you to follow a link to complete the set up for your online account. Okay, nothing wrong with that, right? If you stop and examine further you may find that the email originates from a private email provider such as StandardBank@email.com or you may find a mistake in the name of the email such as StandardBank@StandardBnak.com. Another red flag can include spelling mistakes in the email itself. Usually scammers send out hundreds of these emails in the hopes of getting even a few victims to fall for their trap. The link provided in the email most likely lands you on a visually similar page to the one you are used to, but the URL in the address bar is often incorrect. The information provided on these false web pages will be stolen and potentially used or sold by the criminals who set the page up.
