Recently, the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) released a statement urging those who’ve excluded their Personal Injury Protection (PIP) to keep in mind the impact of health insurance changes on your auto insurance. If you chose to exclude or lower your PIP coverage and then for some reason lose that health insurance that was now acting as primary in case of an accident, it is important that you update your insurance. Failing to adjust your PIP accordingly could result in a lack of health coverage in the event you are injured in an accident.
To ensure that you are covered in the event of an accident, you should update your auto insurance or find new health insurance within 30 days.
If you still need to obtain health coverage, there is a Special Enrollment Period right now from Feb 15 – May 15 and we would be happy to take a look at that for you!
